   A hold in check, hinder, δέος ἰσχάνει ἄνδρας Il.14.387; Αἴαντ' ἰσχανέτην ὥς τε πρὼν ἰσχάνει ὕδωρ 17.747; τὸν δ' οὐκ ἴσχανε δεσμά h.Bacch.13: c. gen., keep back from, κρύος ἀνέρα ἔργων ἰσχάνει Hes.Op.495; so in Prose, ὁ ἥλιος . . ἰσχάνει [τὸν σῖτον] checks its growth, Thphr.CP4.13.6 (v.l. ἰσχαίνει, fort. ἰσχναίνει).    II get, obtain, have, ἀπεμνημόνευεν ἤ ἀνάλογον τῇ ἀπομνημονεύσει πάθος ἴσχα[νε] had an experience...
