γεγόναμεν γὰρ πρὸς συνεργίαν ὡς πόδες, ὡς χεῖρες, ὡς βλέφαρα, ὡς οἱ στοῖχοι τῶν ἄνω καὶ κάτω ὀδόντων. τὸ οὖν ἀντιπράσσειν ἀλλήλοις παρὰ φύσιν → we are all made for mutual assistance, as the feet, the hands, and the eyelids, as the rows of the upper and under teeth, from whence it follows that clashing and opposition is perfectly unnatural

   A κάνναβιν Moschio ap.Ath.5.206f, κανναβίδα (sic codd.) Hdt.l.c., Paus.6.26.6:—hemp, Cannabis sativa, S.Fr.243, Hdt.l.c., Dsc.3.148, etc. (but κ. ἀγρία hemp-mallow, Althaea cannabina, ib.149): in pl., -ίδες hemp-seed, Ephipp.13.6; burnt and used to medicate vapour baths, Hdt.4.75:—hence κανναβισθῆναι take a vapour-bath, Hsch. (Cf. OE. hænep 'hemp', Skt. śahás 'a kind of hemp', etc.; borrowed perh. fr. Ugro-Finnish, cf. Čeremissian ke[ndot ]e, ki[ndot ]e 'hemp' and Syrianian pïš 'hemp'.)
