τα -κκ- της λ. ανάγονται πιθ. σε -kkw- (IE ρίζα ekwo- «άλογο») και αποτελούν εκφραστικό αναδιπλασιασμό, ο οποίος εμπόδισε τη μετατροπή τοὑ χειλοϋπερωικού kw σε -π- (βλ. και λ. ίππος)].
