   A δάηται Il.20.316: also intr. in pf. 2 Act. δέδηα, plpf. δεδήειν (v. infr.); Ep. part. fem. δεδᾰυῖα Nonn.D.6.305: aor. part. δαισθείς E.Heracl.914 (if not from δαίνυμι): also aor. 2 subj. δαβῇ, ἐκδαβῇ, Hsch.: pf. Pass. δέδαυμαι (v. infr. 11). (Δαϝ-ψω, cf. δε-δαυ-μένος, δαβελός, Skt. dunō óti 'burn'):—poet. Verb, light up, kindle, δαῖέ οἱ ἐκ κόρυθός τε καὶ ἀσπίδος ἀκάματον πῦρ she made fire burn from... δαίω (B),

   A divide:—Act. is not found in this sense (for aor. ἔδαισα v. δαίνυμι) , δαΐζω being used:—Pass., δαίεται ἦτορ my heart is torn, distracted, Od.1.48: Ep. 3pl. pf., Αἰθίοπας, τοὶ διχθὰ δεδαίαται ib.23: —more freq. in Med., distribute, κρέα δαίετο 15.140; κρέα πολλὰ δαιόμενος 17.332; πήματα . . δαίονται βροτοῖς ἀθάνατοι Pi.P.3.81; cf. δατέομαι.    II aor. ἔδαισα, feast, from Hdt. downwards, though formed from δαίω, belongs in sense to δαίνυμι (q. v.):—Med., feast on, [ἀμβροσίην] δαίονται Matro Conv.72. (δαι- also in δαίς, δαίνυμι, etc.: prob. akin to δα- in δατέομαι.)
