A dwell by or near, οἱ προσοικοῦντες neighbouring tribes, Isoc.6.46; πόλεσι βάρβαροι -οικοῦντες X.Vect.1.8; ποταμοῖς καὶ θαλάττῃ, of towns, lie by or near, Pl.Ti.22d:— also Pass., τῇ πόλει -ῳκημένοι J.BJ4.4.3. b π. πρὸς τῷ τοίχῳ has his house abutting on the wall, OGI 483.105 (Pergam.). 2 c. acc., dwell in or near, [Ἐπίδαμνον] Th. 1.24; λίμνας καὶ ἕλη Arist.Pol.1256a37. II Pass., of a place, to be inhabited, Plu.2.938d.
