ές, (ἅλς, ἔργον) lit.

   A wrought in or by the sea, always in sense sea-purple, i.e. genuine purple dye, opp. imitations, ἐμβαίνονθ' ἁλουργέσιν on cloths of purple, A.Ag.946; μίτρα ἁ. Pherecr. 100; στρώμαθ' ἁ. Anaxandr.41.7; γῆ Pl.Phd.110c; τὸ ἁ. Arist.Col. 792a7:—less freq. ἁλουργός, όν (also ά, όν Phylarch.41), ἔρια Pl.R. 429d; χιτωνίσκος IG2.754.12,14, etc. (but χ. ἁλουργής ib.21); στολαί Phylarch. l.c.; στρωμναί Plu.Lyc.12, AB81:—also ἁλουργοῦς, οῦν, IG2.757, v.l. in Arist.Sens.442a24, Ion. ἁλοργοῦς GDI5702.23 (Samos).
