Μέλας a river flowing into lake Kopais in Boeotia; its reed beds were famous for producing flutes. πρόσθα μὲν ἲς Ἀχελωίου τὸν ἀοιδότατον Εὐρωπία κράνα Μέλ [ανό] ς τε ῥοαὶ τρέφον κάλαμον (supp. Wil.: τε ποταμοῦ ῥοαὶ Π: ποταμοῦ del. Wil. ut glossema) fr. 70. 2.
