Meaning: in κορθίλας ποιεῖν (IG 22, 2493, 16; IVa), of garden-work, exact meaning unknown; cf. κορθίλας καὶ κόρθιν τοὺς σωρούς. καὶ την συστροφήν H., also κορθέλαι συστροφαί, σωροί H.
Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]
Etymology: Since Fick BB 17, 322 connected with χόρτος etc. (s. v.), which is most certainly wrong. Cf. κόρθυς. Prob. a Pre-Greek formation.
