aor. προὔτᾰμον,

   A cut off beforehand, [ὄψον] προταμών Il.9.489.    II cut off in front, cut short, κορμὸν ἐκ ῥίζης προταμών Od. 23.196; prune vines, PLond.1.131.375, al. (i A.D.).    III Med., cut forward or in front of one, εἰ ὦλκα διηνεκέα προταμοίμην if in ploughing I cut an unbroken furrow before me, Od.18.375; but προταμέσθαι ἀρούρας mow them before, A.R.3.1387.
