in Il.22.491, πάντα δ' ὑπεμνήμυκε, of an orphan boy: Aristarch. interpreted it—

   A he hangs down his head utterly, he is altogether cast down; so that it must be taken (cf. Sch.) as Ep. pf. of ὑπ-ημύω, for ὑπ-εμήμυκε (ν being inserted metri gr.):—the pres. is used by coluth.338, ὑπημύουσι παρειαί sink in, become hollow.

ὑπεμνήμῡκε: ἐν Ἰλ. Χ. 491, πάντα δ’ ὑπεμνήμυκε, ἐπὶ ὀρφανοῦ παιδός. Οἱ ἄριστοι τῶν παλαιῶν ἑρμηνευτῶν ἡρμήνευσαν, ἔχει τὴν κεφαλήν του ὅλως χαμηλωμένην, καὶ βλέπει κάτω ὅλως ἄθυμος· ὥστε δέον νὰ ἐκληφθῇ ὡς Ἐπικ. πρκμ. τοῦ ὑπημύω, ἀντὶ ὑπεμήμυκε, (κατὰ παρένθεσιν τοῦ ν χάριν τοῦ μέτρου, ὡς ἐν τοῖς νώνυμνος ἀντὶ νώνυμος, παλαμναῖος ἐκ τοῦ παλάμη)· ― ἕτεροι προτιμῶσι νὰ ἀναγινώσκωσιν ὑπεμμήμυκε· ― ὁ ἐνεστ. εἶναι ἐν χρήσει παρὰ Κολούθῳ 331, ὑπημύουσι παρειαί, βυθίζονται, κοιλαίνονται.
