I the testing or assaying of gold by fire in a cupel (class.).
I Lit.: auri experimentum ignis est: id ipsum obrussam vocant, Plin. 33, 3, 19, § 59: aurum ad obrussam, refined, pure gold, Suet. Ner. 44.—
