1 узкий проход, теснина (на суше или на море) Her., Thuc., Xen., Luc.: ἐν στενῷ ἀθροίζεσθαι Aesch. (о кораблях) скопиться в узком месте;
2 стесненное положение, затруднительные обстоятельства (εἰς σ. καθίστασθαι Dem.).
