A cause to grow up under, τοῖσι δ' ὑπὸ χθὼν φύεν ποίην Il. 14.347:—Pass., fut. -φύσομαι Diog.Oen.29: aor. 2 -εφύην Arist. HA501b9: pf. -πέφυκα Gal.2.277:—grow up below or as a substitute, of flesh, Hp.VC17, Fract.33; of teeth, Arist. l. c.; of hoofs, ib.604a25: metaph., ἂν [τὰς ῥίζας] ὑποτέμωμεν, οὐδὲν τῶν κακῶν ἡμῖν -φύσεται Diog.Oen. l.c.:—ὑποφύει = ὑποφύεται is f.l. in Thphr.HP 4.15.2. 2 Pass., of muscles, to be inserted under, τῷ δέρματι Gal.2.246, UP3.11, cf. 4.10, al.
