A clear, distinct, Hom. (only in Od.), usu. of Ithaca, 2.167,9.21, etc.: generally, ἦ πού τις νήσων εὐδείελος 13.234; farseen, Κρόνιον Pi.O.1.111; ἄστυ Orac. ap. Eus.PE6.7. II open to the sun, sunny, χθὼν Ἰαολκοῦ Pi.P.4.76; Κρίση h.Ap.438; ὅσσα φύει εὐ. αἶα Euph.50. (In signf. 1 perh. fr. δέελος (dub. l.), δῆλος (Δεᾰλος?): the alternative expl. from δείλη (cf. supr. 11) given by ancient Gramm., e.g. Apollon.Lex. and Str.9.2.41, does not suit signf. 1, but suits the forms.)
