A unexpected, Hes. (v. infr.); τὰν ἀ. χάριν S.OC249 (lyr.); τὰ δοκηθέντ' οὐκ ἐτελέσθη, τῶν δ' ἀ. πόρον ηὗρε θεός E.Med.1418 (also in Alc., Ba., Andr., Hel., ad fin.); ξυμφορὰ ἀ. Th.7.29, etc.; τὸ ἀ. surprise, Id.4.36,al. II ἀδόκητον καὶ δοκέοντα either inglorious and glorious, or unexpecting and expectant, Pi.N.7.31, cf. Trag.Adesp. 482 (lyr.):—unexpecting, Memn.28.2, cf.
