   1 siren fig. of eloquence. σειρῆνα δὲ κόμπον αὐλίσκων ὑπὸ λωτίνων μιμήσομ' ἀοιδαῖς κεῖνον, ὃς Ζεφύρου τε σιγάζει πνοὰς αἰψηράς Παρθ. 2. 13. οὐδὲ πελέκεις οὐδὲ σειρήν (cf.
