Ἐγνάτιος: ᾱ, α, ον, ὁ ἀνήκων εἰς τὴν Ἐγνατίαν (ἐν Ἀπουλίᾳ), Ἐγνατία ὁδός, ἡ συνέχεια τῆς Ἀππίας ὁδοῦ διὰ τῆς Ἀπουλίας καὶ ὡσαύτως πέραν τῆς θαλάσσης ἀπό τῆς Ἀπολλωνίας πρὸς ἕω: «ἐκ δὲ τῆς Ἀπολλωνίας εἰς Μακεδονίαν ἡ Ἐγνατία ἐστιν ὁδὸς πρὸς ἕω, βεβηματισμένη κατὰ μίλιον καὶ κατεστηλωμένη μέχρι Κυψέλων καὶ Ἕβρου ποταμοῦ» Στράβων 322.
