[ῐ], τό, heterocl. dat. pl. ἰάσῐ [ῑᾰ] Nic.Fr.74.2:—

   A violet, Viola odorata, στέφανοι ἴων Sapph.Supp.23.12, cf. Pi.O.6.55, etc.; καὶ τὸ ἴον μέλαν ἐντί Theoc.10.28, cf. AP4.21 (Mel.); κυαναυγές ib.5.73 (Rufin.); ἴ. τὸ μέλαν Thphr.HP1.13.2, CP1.13.12; ἴον alone, Dsc. 4.121:—in Od.5.72, λειμῶνες μαλακοὶ ἴου ἠδὲ σελίνου θήλεον, there were vv.ll. σίου (Ptol. Euerg.) and θρύου.    II ἴον τὸ λευκόν( = λευκόϊον, q.v.) gilliflower, Matthiola incana, Thphr.HP6.6.3; also ἴον alone, ib.6.8.1.    III = κρίνον, Philin. ap. Ath.15.681b.    IV generally, any flower, EM473.10.    V a precious stone of dark colour, Plin.HN37.170. (ϝίον, cf. γία· ἄνθη, Hsch., Lat. viola.)
