A horny scale, of reptiles, opp. λεπίς (of fishes), Arist. HA490b22, PA691a16, cf. A.R.1.221, Opp.C.3.438, Epic. ap. Sch. Nic.Th.257; but interchanged with λεπίς, D.S.17.105, etc.; φ. χαλκοῦ Hp.Vid.Ac.6. II spot on a panther's or leopard's skin, Hld. 10.27. III φ. λιθοκόλλητος a ceiling in mosaic work, D.S.18.26.
