P. and V. ὑπισχνεῖσθαι, ἐπαγγέλλεσθαι, ἐπινεύειν, V. ὑπίσχεσθαι, συναινεῖν (also Xen.), αἰνεῖν, καταινεῖν, P. κατεπαγγέλλεσθαι. Absol., P. and V. ὑφίστασθαι, P. ὑποδέχεσθαι, ἀναδέχεσθαι, V. ἐξαγγέλλεσθαι. Pledge oneself: Ar. and P. ἐγγυᾶσθαι. Promise to be, be likely to be: P. and V. μέλλειν (infin.). Promise well: P. and V. εὖ προχωρεῖν. subs. P. and V. ὑπόσχεσις, ἡ, P. ἐπάγγελμα, τό. Assurance, pledge: P. and V. πίστις, ἡ, πιστόν, τό; see pledge. Hope, expectation: P. and V. ἐλπίς, ἡ.
