APers. Bardiya : avahyā Kanbūjiyahyā brāt[ā Bardi]ya nāma āha, of this Cambyses there was a brother Bardiya (the Σμέρδις of Hdt.) by name (Bh. 1, 29, 30). APers. *bard, high, YAv. barəz, bərəz + suffix (a)iya; cf. Tolman, Lex. and Texts, 114. Cf. the full names Ἀριόμαρδος and Σμερδομένης.
