Brand, I) der Zustand des Brennens, 1) eig.: ignis u. Plur. ignes (Feuer übh.; dah. der erste, zweite B. des Glases etc., primi, secundi ignes). – incendium (Feuersbrunst). – in B. kommen, ignem od. flammam concipere. ignem comprehendere (Feuer fangen); exardescere (sich entzünden); flammis corripi. igni od. flammis comprehendi (in B. geraten, bei einer Feuersbrunst): im B. stehen, ardere od. flagrare incendio: in B. stecken, s. anzünden: vom B. verzehrt werden, incendio od. flammis conflagrare; incendio hauriri. – 2) uneig., als Krankheit, der B. an den tierischen Knochen, caries. – der B. am Getreide, robīgo. – II) ein brennendes Stück Holz, s.
