A bind or fasten under, ἁμαξίδας ὑ. τῇσι οὐρῇσι, of long-tailed sheep, Hdt.3.113. II esp. underbind the feet, i. e. shoe, because the ancient sandals or shoes were bound on with straps, [καμήλους] ὑ. καρβατίναις Arist.HA499a29, cf. Plu.Pomp.24, Paus.10.25.4; so Cobet restores ὑποδῶν τὰ μὲν ὁπλαῖς, for ὑπὸ ποδῶν, in Pl.Prt.321b:—mostly in Med., bind under one's feet, put on shoes, Ar.Av.492 (anap.), Pl. Smp.220b; ὑποδουμένη as I was putting on my shoes, Ar.Ec.36, cf.
