Von γελάω wird es so unterschieden, daß dieses das laute, schallende Lachen ist, μειδάω das lautlose, sanfte Lächeln, weshalb man es auch von μὴ αὐδᾶν ableiten wollte; eine Steigerung ist angedeutet H. h.
