English (LSJ)

[ῠ], ὁ or ἡ, A = μύκης (q.v.). II μύκη· ἡ θήκη, Suid.

Greek (Liddell-Scott)

μύκη: ἡ, = μύκης, Ἐπίχ. 106 Ahrens, Ἀριστίας παρ’ Ἀθην. 60Β, Νικ. παρὰ τῷ αὐτ. 372F. 2) = θήκη, «μύκη, ἡ θήκη» Σουΐδ.

French (Bailly abrégé)

ης (ἡ) :
champignon.
Étymologie: cf. μύκης.

Greek Monolingual

(I)
μύκη, ἡ (Α)
(κατά το λεξ. Σούδα) «ἡ θήκη».
[ΕΤΥΜΟΛ. Η λ. συνδέεται πιθ. με μύκης.
(II)
μύκη, ὁ, ἡ (Α)
μύκητας.
[ΕΤΥΜΟΛ. Παρλλ. τ. του μύκης, -ητος].

Frisk Etymological English

Grammatical information: f.
Meaning: · ἡ θήκη Suid.
Other forms: Cf. μύκων σωρός, θημών H., and ἀμύκαρις· πλῆθος, ἅθροισμα H.
Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin](X)
Etymology: Fur. 372 takes the two forms with μυκ- together, which seems quite acceptable, and adds the third, which is slightly less evident. The ἀ- may be evidence for a Pre-Greek word. Pok. 752 gives the word and compares OIc. mugi heap, OE muga heap, mass, Bayr. Mauche Auswuchs, Fussgeschwulst der Pferde. Cf. Grošelj, Živa Ant. 7, 227. Is the word IE? (or rather a non-IE loanword?).
