English (Autenrieth)

adv., reaching far and wide, Il. 17.748; piercingly, ἤῦσεν, Il. 8.227.

Russian (Dvoretsky)

διαπρύσιον: (ῠ) adv.
1 сплошь, насквозь: πρὼν πεδίοιο δ. τετυχηκώς Hom. горный кряж, протянувшийся через всю равнину;
2 пронзительно, громко (ἤϋσεν Hom.; κιθαρίζειν HH).

Frisk Etymological English

Grammatical information: adv.
Meaning: going through, piercing, esp. of sounds, far stretching (Hom.)
Other forms: -ίως adv. (D. S.)
Origin: IE [Indo-European]X [probably] [??] *δια-πρ-υ-τ-?
Etymology: Cf. τηΰσιος etc., so for *δια-πρύ-τιος. The stem reminds of διαπρό through and through, with -τ- analogical (avoiding hiatus), cf. Risch 115. For the unclear υ-vowel Aeolic origin has been supposed (Chantraine Gramm. hom. 1, 25); other proposals in Bechtel Lex. s. v. (to πρύτανις, but this is Pre-Greek; πρυμνός with -υ- after πύματος?) and Schwyzer-Debrunner 505; diff. Schwyzer KZ 63, 60 n. 1: to διαπείρω with υ-suffix and dental.

Frisk Etymology German

διαπρύσιον: {diaprúsion}
Forms: -ιος Adv. (h. Hom. usw.), -ίως Adv. (D. S.)
Grammar: Adv. (Hom. u. a.),
Meaning: durchdringend, weithin dringend, bes. vom Laut, weithin tönend, offenbar.
Etymology : Stimmt im Suffix zu τηΰσιος usw., somit zunächst für *διαπρύτιος. Der Stamm erinnert an διαπρό durch und durch, wobei -τ- analogisch (hiatustilgend) sein kann, vgl. Risch 115. Für den unklaren υ-Vokal ist äolischer Ursprung vermutet worden (Chantraine Gramm. hom. 1, 25); andere Vorschläge bei Bechtel Lex. s. v. (zu πρύτανις, πρυμνός mit -υ- nach πύματος?) und Schwyzer-Debrunner 505; wieder anders Schwyzer KZ 63, 60 A. 1: διαπρυ- zu διαπείρω mit υ-Suffix und Dentalableitung.
