αὐλῶπις: -ιδος, ἡ, (ὢψ), ἐν Ἰλ. αείποτε, αὐλῶπις τρυφάλεια - κατὰ τὸν Ἡσύχ. «εἶδος περικεφαλαίας, παραμήκεις ἐχούσης τὰς τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν (ὀπὰς) καὶ εἰς ὀξὺ ληγούσης· οἱ δὲ ἐκτεταμένον ἔχουσα τὸν λόφον», ἀλλὰ κατὰ τὸν Σχολ. ἐσήμαινεν αὐλὸν εἰς ὃν προσηρμόζετο ὁ λόφος, αὐλωπίδί τε τρυφαλείῃ, «αὐλίσκον ἐχούσῃ, καθ’ οὗ πήγνυται ὁ λόφος» (Σχόλ.), Ἰλ.
