B. air. caire Tadel, ahd. harawēn verspotten, lett. karinât zergen, necken, reizen, russ. kor Beleidigung, Schimpf; hinzu kommt das im Anlaut mehrdeutige toch. AB kärn- etwa quälen, schlagen.
