[Seite 1061] τό, der hölzerne Umfang des Rades, das Holz, das diesen Umfang bildet, die Felge, VLL.; die eiserne Bedeckung oder Einfassung des äußern Rades hieß ἐπίσωτρον, entweder von σώομαι = σο ῦμαι, σεύομαι, auf den schnellen Umschwung des Rades gehend, od. wahrscheinlicher von σῶς, aus einem Stücke gearbeitet, schwerlich von σώζω, ein Reif, um das Holz zu schonen.
