Zacynthus (now Zante), an island in the realm of Odysseus, south of Same, Od. 1.246, Il. 2.634. A short syllable is not necessarily lengthened by position before the initial Z of this word, Od. 9.124, Od. 1.246; cf. Ζέλεια.
