• Etimología: Se impone la existencia de un neutr. ide. *albhi ‘cebada’, ‘harina de cebada’ representado en alb. por elp (elbi) ‘id.’ y tal vez en iranio *albh- (en el préstamo arba ‘cebada’ en turco-tártaro). A partir de la variante del lacon. ἀλίφατα una decl. heterócl. en -i / -n (cf. ai. asthi asthnás) resulta evidente. A su vez *albhi ha sido rel. bien c. la r. de ἀλφάνω q.u., bien c. la de ἀλφός q.u.
