When they saw the result of the sea battle: P. ὡς ᾔσθοντο τὰ τῆς ναυμαχίας (Thuc. 8, 43). We like the thing both for its own sake and its results: P. αὐτό τε αὑτοῦ χάριν ἀγαπῶμεν καὶ τῶν ἀπʼ αὐτοῦ γιγνομένων (Plat., Rep. 357C). v. intrans.
