   A upon the earth, earthly, freq. in Hom., as epith. of ἄνθρωποι, ἄνδρες, βροτοί, Od.8.479, Il.1.266,272 : abs., ἐπιχθόνιοι earthly ones, men on earth (cf. χαμαί), opp. ἐπουράνιοι θεοί, 24.220, cf. Pi.O.6.50, B.4.15, etc.; so ἐ. γένος ἀνδρῶν Pi.Fr. 213.3 ; ἐ. δαίμονες who haunt the earth, Hes.Op.123.    2 in pl., natives of a country, D.P.459,1093.    3 terrestrial, opp. marine, ἑρπετόν Opp.H.2.425.
