I a beautiful youth of Mount Latmos, in Caria, who, on account of his love for Juno, was condemned by Jupiter to perpetual sleep. While in this state Luna fell violently in love with him, Cic. Endymiōn, ōnis, m. (Ενδυμίων), Sohn des Aëthlios od. des Zeus u. der Kalyke, Vater des Ätolos. Er wurde nach einer spätern Sage von der Selene in Karien auf dem Berge Latmos im Schlafe überrascht und verfiel seitdem in einen ewigen Schlaf, Cic. Tusc. 1, 92. Prop. 2, 15, 15.
