   A = ἀλκυών, A.R.1.1085, Epigr.Gr.205 (Halicarn.), 241.8 (Smyrna).    II Adj. ἀλκῠονίδες, αἱ, with or without ἡμέραι, winter days during which the halcyon builds, and the sea is calm, hence prov. of undisturbed tranquillity, Ar. Av.1594, cf. Arist.HA 542b15, Philoch.180, Luc.Halc.2, Suid.; placed in spring by Ps.- Democr. ap. Gem. Calend.9: sg. in Alciphr.1.1.
