[ΕΤΥΜΟΛ. Κατά μία άποψη, η λ. αποτελεί άλλο τ. αντί της λ. φέλων, ενώ, κατ' άλλη άποψη, η λ. έχει σημ. «σύντροφος» και έχει σχηματιστεί < φίλος + επίθημα -ων, -ωνος (πρβλ. τρίβ-ων)].
