HP9.10.1, etc. (ἑ. λευκός white hellebore, Veratrum album, Dsc.4.148; ἑ. μέλας hellebore, Helleborus orientalis (or cyclophyllus), ib.162); given to the insane, Hp.Vict.1.35: hence, πῖθ' ἑλλέβορον, i.e. you are mad, Ar.V.1489; ἑλλέβορον ἤδη πώποτ' ἔπιες; Men.69 (prob.l.); ἐλλέβορον πῖσαι Hp.Fract.11, cf.
