χάλκανθον: τό, διάλυσις χαλκίτιδος ἢ κυανῆς στυπτηρίας (θειικοῦ χαλκοῦ, «γαλαζοπέτρας») χρησιμεύουσα ὡς μέλαν πρὸς γραφὴν καὶ ὡς βαφὴ δερμάτων τῶν ὑποδηματοποιῶν, Λατ. chalcanthum, Διοσκ. 5. 114, Πλίν. 34. 32. ― ἀλλ’ ἀμφότεροι οἱ συγγραφεῖς φαίνεται ὅτι συνέχεαν τὸν θειικὸν χαλκὸν (κυανοῦν) πρὸς τὸν θειικὸν σίδηρον (πράσινον) ὡς καὶ παρὰ τοῖς νεωτέροις τὸ ὄνομα βιτριόλιον (vitriol) ἐδόθη εἰς ἀμφότερα· ― ὡσαύτως χάλκανθος, ὁ καὶ ἡ, Γαλην.· καὶ χαλκανθές, τό, Στράβ. 163, 648. ― Ἐπίθ. χαλκανθώδης, ες, ὅμοιος πρὸς χάλκανθον, Ἄντυλλ. παρ’ Ὀρειβασίῳ 279 Matth. ― Δὲν πρέπει δὲ νὰ συγχέωμεν τοῦτο πρὸς τὸ χαλκοῦ ἄνθος, ἴδε ἐν λ. χαλκὸς ΙΙΙ.
