Fußvolk, peditatus (Ggstz. equitatus). – pedites (Ggstz. equites). – peditum od. pedestres copiae. exercitus pedester (Ggstz. equitatus, equestres copiae). – Das Fußvolk wird, wenn im Gegensatz die Reiterei genannt wird, gew. von den Historikern bl. bezeichnet durch exercitus, cohortes, milites, legio, auch viri, homines; dah. häufig verb. milites equitesque, exercitus equitatusque, exercitus cum equitatu, equites virique, homines equitesque. – leichtes F., pedites levis armaturae: schweres F., pedites gravis armaturae; gravius peditum agmen (auf dem Marsche): unter dem F. (= als Fußsoldat) dienen, s. Fußsoldat. – was vom F. geliefert etc. wird, des F., pedester, tris, tre (Ggstz. equester; z.B. pugna, proelium, militia).
