   A cinnabar, bisulphuret of mercury, whence vermilion is obtained, Arist.Mete.378a26, Thphr.Lap.58, Dsc.5.94; thought by some to be serpent's blood, Dsc.l.c., Plin.HN33.116:—a masc.form κιννάβαρις, Anaxandr.14:—also τεγγάβαρι (q.v.).    2 = ἐρυθρόδανον, Ps.-Dsc.3.143 (-ρις).
