κνέφαλλον: τὸ, ἔριον ἀπορριφθὲν κατὰ τὴν κατεργασίαν τοῦ μαλλοῦ ἢ τῶν ὑφασμάτων, «ἀπομεινάρι», ἐκ τοιούτων κνεφάλλων ἐπληροῦντο στρωμάτια καὶ προσκεφάλαια, καὶ ἐντεῦθεν τὸ κνέφαλλον σημαίνει στρῶμα ἢ προσκεφάλαιον, Εὐρ. Ἀποσπ. 677, Κρατῖν. ἐν «Μαλθακοῖς» 3, Εὔπολ. ἐν «Πόλεσιν» 36, Ἀριστοφ. Ἀποσπ. 84, κτλ.· κνάφαλλον, γνάφαλλον (ἅπερ, ἐν σχέσει πρὸς τὰ κνάπτω, γνάπτω, φαίνονται ὡς οἱ ὀρθότεροι τύποι) φέρονται συχνάκις ὡς διάφ. γραφαί, πρβλ.
