   A made from the πρῖνος, γύης Hes. Op.429; ἄνθρακες Ar.Ach.668; αἱ πρίνιναι (sc. βάλανοι) Dsc.1.106.2; π. ὕλη Orib.49.3.1; μύκητες π. fungi that grow under the ilex, Antiph.227.11, cf. An.Ox.3.231.    2 metaph., oaken, i.e. tough, sturdy, γέροντες Ar.Ach.180; τὸ λίαν στρυφνὸν καὶ π. ἦθος Id.V.877; ἀθληταί Luc.Hist.Conscr.8, cf. AP7.37 (Diosc.) (rejected by Hom. in favour of φήγινος for reasons of euphony, acc. to Phld.Po.2.9).
