Etymology: Zu ἄπτερος beflügelt, schnell (Trag. Adesp., H.), von ἀ copulativum und πτερόν, mit metrisch bedingtem -έως. Rupprecht Philol. 78, 395f. gegen Fraenkel Glotta 2, 29ff. — Davon ἀπτερύσσομαι mit den Flügeln schlagen (Archil.; nach πτερύσσομαι von πτέρυξ) mit Neubildung ἀπτερύομαι (Arat.; nach ἀφύω: ἀφύσσω usw., s.
