English (LSJ)
v. sub δρυμάζω.
Spanish (DGE)
• Alolema(s): át. δρυμάττω
1 desgarrar, lacerar en uso cóm. obs. por follar, Com.Adesp.782, cf. Hsch., δρυμαράξεις· σπαράξεις Phot.δ 765 (falsa l. por δρυμάξεις).
2 apalear Hsch.
• Etimología: Quizá rel. c. δρύπτω q.u., prob. c. interferencia de otro verbo, μάσσω o ἰμάσσω.
German (Pape)
[Seite 668] = δρύπτω, in obscönem Sinne; com. bei Poll. 5, 95; Hesych.
Frisk Etymological English
-ττω
Grammatical information: v.
Meaning: tear up, crush, intr. creak (= ληκεῖν Poll. 5, 93), also sensu obscaeno; cf. H.: δρυμάξεις κυρίως μεν σπαράξεις. χρῶνται δε καὶ ἐπὶ τοῦ συνέσει καὶ προσομιλήσεις (Kom. Adesp. 986); - δρυμάσσειν καὶ δρυμάξαι τὸ τύπτειν ξύλοις. ἐδρύμαξεν ἔθραυσεν, ἔσφαξεν. ἀδρύμακτον καθαρόν.
Other forms: Aor. δρυμάξαι, fut. δρυμάξω
Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]X [probably]
Etymology: Expressive formation. But a cross of δρύπτω with another verb (μάσσω?, ἱμάσσω?) does not seem probable. Rather a derivation, with -ακ-, from δρύπτω, with -μ- for -π- (Fur. 224f, cf. 326 δρυφ-, δρυψ-). The explanation with τύπτειν ξύλοις (H.) is prob. folketymology (after δρυμός?). - Cf. Debrunner IF 21, 225.
Frisk Etymology German
δρυμάσσω: -ττω,
{drumássō}
Forms: Aor. δρυμάξαι, Fut. δρυμάξω
Grammar: v.
Meaning: etwa zerreißen, zerschmettern, intr. krachen (= ληκεῖν Poll. 5, 93), auch sensu obscaeno; vgl. H.: δρυμάξεις· κυρίως μὲν σπαράξεις. χρῶνται δὲ καὶ ἐπὶ τοῦ συνέσει καὶ προσομιλήσεις (Kom. Adesp.
— Vgl. Debrunner IF 21, 225.
