(χέω), ipf. ἀμφεχεόμην, aor. 2 ἀμφεχύμην, ἀμφέχυτο, pass. aor. ἀμφεχύθην: pour or be diffused or shed around, embrace; πάρος κόνιν ἀμφιχυθῆναι, before the dust (stirred by the feet of Ajax immediately in advance) could ‘pour (rise) round’ him (Odysseus), Il. 23.763 ; ἀμφιχυθεὶς πατέρα, Od. 16.214, ἀμφεχέοντο (‘thronged around’) καὶ ἠσπάζοντ' Ὀδυσῆα, Od. 22.498; metaph., of sounds (Il. 2.41), feelings (Od. 4.716), sleep (Il. 14.253).
