ᾰχελώιος a river running between Aitolia and Akarnania. οὐδ' Ἀχελωιο[ Πα. 13c. 11. ]ἀλκὰν Ἀχελωίου κρανίον τοῦτο ζάθε[ον (Pae. 21.9) as a general designation for all fresh water: πρόσθα μὲν ἲς Ἀχελωίου τὸν ἀοιδότατον Εὐρωπία κράνα Μέλανός τε ῥοαὶ τρέφον κάλαμον (Turyn assumes that Εὐρωπία ῥοαὶ is in apposition to ἴς Αχελωίου: cf.
