ἀμήχανον δὲ παντὸς ἀνδρὸς ἐκμαθεῖν ψυχήν τε καὶ φρόνημα καὶ γνώμην, πρὶν ἂν ἀρχαῖς τε καὶ νόμοισιν ἐντριβὴς φανῇ → hard it is to learn the mind of any mortal or the heart, 'till he be tried in chief authority | it is impossible to know fully any man's character, will, or judgment, until he has been proved by the test of rule and law-giving

Frisk Etymological English

Grammatical information: m.
Meaning: one of the Καβειροι (s.v.), son of Kabeiro and Hephaistos; he is the younger man, beside an older one and the Mother Goddess.
Other forms: Also Κὰσμιλος, Κάμιλλος; on the forms of the name see Beekes, Mnemosyne 75, 4 (2004) 466ff.
Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]
Etymology: The name has been compared with Mursilis and Troilos, and Morinail (of the Lemnos inscription). The name as a whole may be identical with that of Hasammil(i\/as), a Hattic god. Was it orig. *Hatsmily? It will be a derivation of Kadmos (though there is no tradition that says so).
