Origin: see εἵλη
Etymology: The false reading θειλόπεδον was already accepted in antiquity (AP, Dsc.); from there θειλοπεδεύω wither in the sun (Dsk.). S. also Ure ClQuart. N. S. 5, 227. But the inscr. in Mylasa has θειλοπε[, which rather suggests that θ. was the correct reading (Dubois, RPh. 71 (1997) 162).

Etymology: Die falsche Lesung θειλόπεδον hat sich schon im Altertum durchgesetzt (AP, Dsk.); dazu θειλοπεδεύω auf dem Sonnenplatz, in der Sonne dörren (Dsk.). S. auch UreClQuart. N. S. 5, 227.
