(v. infr.) : (ξένος) :— hospitality shown to a guest, entertainment, δώροισιν ἀμειψάμενος . . καὶ ξενίῃ ἀγαθῇ Od.24.286 ; μείξεσθαι ξενίῃ ἠδ' ἀγλαὰ δῶρα διδώσειν ib.314 ; κατὰ ξεινίην hospitii causa, Hdt.2.182 ; ἐπὶ ξενίαν ἐλθεῖν to come as a guest, Pi.N.10.49 ; but, ἐπὶ ξενίαν καλεῖν, παρακαλεῖν, also ἐπὶ ξενίᾳ καλεῖσθαι, καλεῖν, prob. only as f.l. for ἐπὶ ξένια, v. ξένιος 1.2 : in pl., Id.O.4.17 ; ξενίαι καὶ φιλότητες And.1.145 ; ἑτοίμαζέ μοι ξ.
