atmen, I) v. intr.spirare; respirare; spiritum attrahere ac reddere; animam od. spiritum ducere. – schwer a., aegre ducere spiritum: kurz a., anhelare (keuchen): schwach a., raro spirare; tenuem spirare animam (v. Sterbenden): so lange ich atme (= lebe). dum quidem spirare potero; dum animā spirabo meā; dum spiro; dum anima est. – II) v. tr.: 1) mit dem Atem einziehen u. ausstoßen: spiritu ducere. – die Luft, die wir atmen, aër, quem spiritu ducimus: dieselbe Luft a., eodem frui caelo: freie Luft, frische Luft a., s.
